Location scouting and Risk assessment

Location scouting Also known a a 'recce' where you go out to look for a location to use in your production. You will more than likely researched to location already but you will need to check in person to see if it is suitable.  The location can be anything ranging from a house to a mansion, a classroom, a park ect. The scout will have all the relevant information on what is needed from the location and what they are looking for e.g. the bedroom or entrance hall.  Location scouts will report to the location manager with details so a decision can be made to use it or not. A location scout will look out for: - Pros and cons of the location (does it match the location and overall aesthetic of what is in the                script/plan.) - Take photos and screenshots of the map and area. - Find out who you need to seek permission to use an area e.g. neighbors, the government, and if there is a financial cost to use the location. - ...

Darkest Dungeon Introduction

Image
What is Darkest Dungeon? The game revolves around a central vehicle, The Stagecoach, carrying you through the journey to The Mountain. Additionally The Stagecoach can be upgraded throughout the game by The Wainwright at any Inn.  The Stagecoach is one of the main aspects to the game as it is the only way to travel and carries the player, the heroes and the Flame which effects the difficulty of the battles. If the Flame falls below 40 brightness, you get attacked by more challenging enemies. The Flame has modifiers that change the effects of heroes and enemies. The main point of the game is to defeat your enemies and continue on your gruelling way to The Mountain as it is the source of all the madness in the Darkest Dungeons world. Heroes Heroes are the characters used by the player. The Heroes are divided into several different classes, specialisations that define their abilities. The different abilities and skills are all to fill in di...

How to export : Cut your clip down to size using the mark in and out tool to eliminate the chance of having a random clip dragged at the end of the edit. Types Of Maps

Diffuse - A diffuse map is the most is the most common type of texture you will find. Diffuse is a raw colour channel for a 3d model. Specular - This map defines the shininess, or how much the light the surface reflects. This map is grey scale, white being the most reflective and black the most absorbent. Gloss   -  A gloss map helps define the roughness of a surface. The darker areas would be rough, the lighter areas would be smoother. This helps create surface detail when coupled with a specular map. Albedo/Base colour  - An albedo/ base colour map should normally be devoid of shadows and highlights, this map should be just the base colour.  An albedo is more commonly known as a diffuse map. The big difference is when used in PBR work flow, there is a lack of directional light or ambient occlusion. Roughness  - A roughness map and gloss map that are similar, though roughness is what would be found in PBR. Dark areas of the texture will have a...

Weapon project Write up

Image
The first thought that came into my mind is, what matches my theme that I started my door project with, the steampunk theme. The typical weapon choices that I first thought of were a pocket knife, a sword, a shield and a crossbow, as they fit in the theme of steampunk very well, through the palate of bronze and browns. This lead me to the idea of making a spear, a practical and multi-purpose weapon. My idea for the spear is to make it useful for more than a single purpose, so added more to the weapon, including an energy orb in the centre of the blade, which could be used as an alternate attack. The orb could be used to light the way, by its eerie blue light, or to disable  enemies. I created this base for the spear. The part where you hold the weapon is the indented part of the cylinder, as that is where the spear balances well when being held by the character. The shape of the blade was quite challenging to achieve, first being a plane, I had to split it up a...

Games review Agree and Disagree

Forza Horizon 5 review https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/forza-horizon-5-review I agree with this article due to the sheer attention to detail that the game has included into the map and weather systems right down to the water splashes and dust particles. The game has been meticulously perfected through the interaction of the map through you as a player, the addition of dust storms and a volcano brings new elements to explore into the game. As well as the new additions to the game, Forza Horizon 5 has the old fun of traversing the environment to get discount boards, xp boards and barn finds. This makes the game feel more rounded with lots of activities to keep the player interested in. In my opinion, Forza has been perfected and is one of the best and most realistic games out there in terms of car experience. The free choice of doing what events you want and easily customising those events really bring a sense of creativity to the player. The festival atmosphere ...

Shot Types

Extreme Wide Shot - Generally used to open a film or scene to help set the location and mood of the shot. They are filmed from a distance for example a city skyline or to show to situation of a character. Long Shot - focuses on a character from head to toe, shows as being life size. There is still lots of background detail to show the location. Medium Long Shot - between a long shot and a medium shot, shows the character from the knees up popular in wester movies to show the guns. Medium shot - used for dialogue scenes, the audience is focused on the characters rather than the scene around them . Medium Close Up - Shows characters chest up. It shows more detail than other shots and can show basic emotions and props well. Close Up - Can show expressions or emotions in a characters face. Extreme Close Up - framed very close up to the character so you can only see small areas of the face e.g. one eye.

VFX - Camera Angles

Camera angles The 180 Rule - Used for filming dialogue scene. Its where you keeps the camera angles and characters on the same side when talking to each other. You don't go past 180 degrees around the characters. Eye level/ Straight angle - The camera will be shooting straight ahead, roughly at eye level and is a neutral angle. Low angle - Filmed below eye line, this is used to then make a character look strong or heroic and is used to show perspective. High angle - The camera is held above eye line and is usually mounted on a crane. This is used to show the character is weak and powerless. POV shot - shows the perspective of the character, used frequently in horror movies to build tension and mood. Experience it as if it was you. Dutch tilt - Where the camera is tilted at a certain degree to create the sense of phycological uneasiness and if the character is under the influence of a substance. Birds eye view - Where the camera is revealing the scene for a birds eye...
