Old and new UI

 reflective UI

Tomb raider was one of the biggest changes we see with UI. There was a limited main menu that was really hard to navigate because, when you died you cannot exit the passport which was your saves/ new game. This made it hard to customize the settings in game. Additionally the control for the game was really bad as both joysticks had to be used for movement and they also both control the camera movement which was very disorienting and frustrating to use when you want to go a certain direction and then you drift off to a random location. In addition there was no HUD which impacted the game massively as you don't have any idea what items you have at your disposable or what your currently selecting, the only HUD was the health bar which would randomly disappear.

the newer Tomb raider has a much easier interface to navigate and there were pre rendered in game cutscenes which really brought the game to life and create context to the game whereas the loading screen on the old tomb raider was confusing as there was a random baboon and you get spawned into a temple sort of area with no guidance where to go or what your objective is. additionally in the newer game, there was a tutorial to help you know what to do with certain items and how to interact and use them to help you escape certain areas and progress in game. in addition to help with the playability of the game, there were also quest markers so that it is clear what you have to do to progress in the game.

Overall this makes the game so much better to play for the user as it is much more demonstrative of what you must do it the game causing it to be more accessible to a wider audience, not just a small group of players who specifically know how to control the character on the older console.
