What went well?
With my non violent weapon, the development stage where I came up with lots of separate designs for my weapon was one of the best aspects of my project as I came up with many designs and developed the design that I liked the most, into the final design. This part went really well as I had good vision with what I wanted my gun to look like and made developments quite detailed as the design development progressed.
Another aspect I am happy with is how my substance painter came out as it reflected the designs that I made quite well, using the different shades of grey and black while also including texture. This brought life to my weapon as it made my design more believable and lifelike, using the black mask on substance painter helped a lot in the texturing as it helped me just select separate faces of the weapon.
Even better if?
One part of this project I would improve upon would be to spend more time on the development of the gun in blender to brush up my unwrapping and higher poly shaping through development iterations as I only did one development in blender of the gun so parts of the gun maybe wasn't as efficient as it could be if I did different design iterations in engine. A problem I ran into was the mirroring in my design was slightly off so you could see where the overlapping on the gun was which was a problem as it didn't give a perfectly finish view to the gun.
Additionally, with my non violent weapon, I wish I did a more sophisticated animation for my gun to give a better feel for the animation type of the gun, as I only went with a simple recoil and projectile in the design. To improve upon this I would've animated the trigger and maybe a recoil on a part of the gun as that was what I was envisioning with my design but didn't have enough time to get round to it with the full on animation.
Another improvement I could've done was to do a final beauty drawing of my final design of the gun or a beauty render on unreal engine or blender. This would have been something I would've done if I had enough time to complete the beauty renders. A factor that could've helped me in this would have been better time management so that would be another improvement in this project as i seemed to have ran out of time on the final touches of the project.
