Character model rigging - Blender
My first go at trying to create a character rig, my mirror went wrong as I had put the object origin point in the wrong place so I will go step by step how to create a character rig.
To add an image into blender, shift A and go onto image and click reference image, to get a picture into blander and remember to deselect align to view option. To make the image go invisible from behind, go into the picture icon and select the front option in side.
to get two different viewpoints in blender to make modelling easier, right click on the side tab and select the vertical split to get this result. Then what you wanto do is get a square mesh and align it into the centre of the character model and do some loop cuts using ctrl R and line it to one of the feet as you only have to do half of the character due to the mirror that you do later. To model the foot, I made a few loop cuts and start moving them into position using the grab tool, I repeated this until I had the basic shape of the foot.
I then selected the top polys of the ankle and extruded them and grab them into the rough shape of the reference image. I did this up to the knee section of the image. I then repeated the same steps that I did on the foot, adding loop cuts. I'm extruding a hexagonal type shape as it give a more lifelike feel compared to a square shape being extruded.
Because the body is in the way of developing the arms, i am going to use the hide tool, to do this I press H to hide the selected area and to reveal the area back again I use alt H. To make the arm i get the edge polys lined up into an octagonal shape.
when extruding the arm of the character I came up with a problem with the polys not matching up, so I deleted the parts and selected the two normal corners and pressed J to join the two corners together fixing the problem.
