Door Design Completion
I finished adding the colours and adding texture to the door to make the door look more completed and realistic, giving a rustic and weathered look through the "wood" and the rusted cogs on the door.
Door Analysis:
The door that I have designed is heavily inspired by the the steampunk theme employing the use of cogs, wood and metals similarly seen in the steampunk theme. The addition of the metal pipes makes the door have an industrial and slightly comical appearance because you would think that the door doesn't work on steam power.
To further back up the industrial side of this door, I implemented a number pad to give a sense of mystery as to what is behind the door. It also brings a level of interaction to the door as the character could use the number pad to open it.
The use of the wood in the door compliments the metallic pipes and number pad because of its timeless and old appearance, using a dark mahogany colour, extensively used in steampunk designs.
When my door opens I would like the cogs on the door to rotate, the door will have a more engaging appearance and will have the illusion that the cogs are helping the door to open.
WWW: Things that went well in my opinion is the unwrapping of the door and the further texturing of the door, as the process went quite well and makes the door pop out and have a more realistic appearance.
Another thing that went well was getting used to all the different tools on blender e.g. using the array tool on the number pad to speed along the process of making the door.
EBI: Things that didn't go so smoothly was the construction of the cogs in the door because of their complex shape and design process. Additionally the "window" in the middle of the cog isn't semi transparent like a real window so I would like to figure out how to add a transparent texture to a material in my next project if it is needed.
for my door I would like the animation for it to be very realistic, not motion censored or touch opened. The door is obviously quite big compared to the player so the player hauls it open, putting all their bodyweight into it to slowly push it open.
Some parts of the door are missing, as part of the puzzle of the game you have to retrieve it to then be able to open the door and are hidden throughout the map, some are trapped and you will have to find alternative routes through.
